Event ideas – tips

Why don’t you…?
-
Skill up! If you’ve been wanting to try out that new hobby, now’s the time. Find a willing teacher, some enthusiastic friends and get stuck in. Guitar, singing, painting, dancing – you may find it is the beginning of something much bigger. The price of the lesson could be a good value to donate to your Girls’ Night In.
-
Boxed up! If you love getting together for a night in front of the box, why not tune in to LifeStyle YOU on Foxtel this October to get your fix of inspirational, motivational and downright sensational programs.
-
Bling it on! Why not get your girlfriends to create their own beaded necklaces and bracelets – all the bits you need are readily available. Decide on a value, sell them to each other and donate the proceeds. Everyone ends up with a special piece of jewellery that is guaranteed to be a one-off!
-
Sold! Add an extra dimension to your Girls’ Night In by encouraging friends, family or colleagues to donate a special something – or skill – for auction. Auction off all items on the night to raise extra funds and have fun at the same time.
-
I like to move it, move it! If anyone can motivate you, your friends can! Get the gang over and try a new form of exercise – whether you organise a private class or get a DVD, exercise is always a great way to feel good the next day! Suggest the price of a normal class or a week’s gym membership for their contribution to your Girls’ Night In. Let the girls know they can pop into their local Curves and schedule a free week’s visit to help reduce their cancer risk by maintaining a healthy weight.
-
Book club! If you’re lucky enough to be in a book club, why not get the girls together for a special cause. Or, if you’ve always wanted to start one, this is the perfect time. A book with a women’s theme or an autobiography could provide lively discussion. Borrow the book from the library and donate its cover value!
-
Dish it up! Most people have a cherished recipe from a special woman in their lives. Get your friends to make their favourite dish and bring them over to share. Write all the recipes down and compile a small recipe book to sell to each other at the end of the night!
-
Swap till you drop! We’ve all got clothes that we no longer need, don’t work or haven’t worn. Get a group together, put a small price on your preloved items and watch the feathers fly! You’ll clear out your closet, help Cancer Council and get a real bargain!
-
Game on! Find your favourite game and bring it along for a night of good, honest fun. Get competitive as you battle your way through Jenga, Twister, Pictionary, Monopoly or whatever you can find in the cupboard! Pay an entry fee and create a prize pool. You can donate entry fees and prize money at the end of the night.
-
What a beauty! No one needs a pampering session like busy friends. Whether you do each other’s nails, call in a mobile hairdresser, organise
a masseuse, or have a professional make-up artist come over and give you some tips, everyone deserves a little indulgence. Money saved from a salon
visit could go towards your Girls’ Night In.
-
Stitched up! If you have kids and don’t know what to do with those favourite clothes that are too small but you can’t part with – why not get your group together and have a quilting bee. Get everyone to bring along their kids’ old clothes and begin turning them into a loved quilt that would be a great gift for that child (or yourself). Beautiful quilts are expensive, so some of the money saved could go towards a contribution.
-
Inspiring women For something different, come along as a woman that inspires you. Go all out and get your guests to dress up as their most inspirational woman. Suggest they do a talk about them – your own Speaker’s Corner. You may be surprised by what inspires your friends and learn something new about them. Throw money in a hat after every speaker and see what you come up with!
-
Rumble in the Jumble! We’ve all got things in our homes that we no longer need but are too good to throw out. Knowing your old favourites are going to a good cause will help you part with them - set them free! Find 5 of your best throw-outs and put them together with your friends’ to create a jumble stall.
